Well it’s a very sad day for myself (personally) and BMD Members. The resignation of Matra Petroleum’s Exploration Director Dr Neil Hodgson was announced this morning.
I spoke to Dr Hodgson this afternoon & expressed my disbelief. This is the man widely held responsible for discovering the Sokolovskoe field. Indeed Dr Hodgson’s career is peppered with exploration success’ which may go some way as to understanding why he has decided to move to pastures new.
Neil feels that he is leaving Matra in very good shape. So much so that he believes that “Matra will be mega under Barskiy & Hind” The whole emphasis of the company has changed from exploration to development and herein may lie the key to why Neil may have decided to move on.
Dr Hodgson is a hands on get your fingers dirty geologist who loves nothing better than being in the field at the forefront of exploration. … read more

Well it’s been an absolutely fantastic ride so far for holders of Matra petroleum. For those who have stuck through the bad times and managed their holdings the future is looking increasingly bright. We’ve gone all out trying to source information on Barskiy. In-fact I’ve personally drove Matra Petroleum mad with incessant calls demanding to speak to those on the Board. Persistence pays off as a Mountie will tell you. There’s a chance that Barskiy could be present at the Extra Ordinary General Meeting on the 9th of May next month. This was confirmed to me by Matra Petroleum today although it wasn’t categorically confirmed it was agreed that it was a distinct possibility. Any appearance at the EGM will be picked up by the national financial press and could act as a further driver for the share-price. God knows how high it could … read more

It’s been a fantastic few weeks for Matra Petroleum holders. The news that Matra had after a long chase finally secured the involvement of one of Russia’s big oil hitters certainly took most by surprise.
Barskiy; it needs to be remembered has come over from a very influential position at TNK-BP. His whole history is one of success after success, whether that be in finance or oil. In 2004 he became Managing Director of West Siberian Resources. The group merged with Alliance Oil and its market capitalisation grew from less than US$100 million to US$3 billion. The rise in capitalisation was approx’ 3000%. What’s interesting is that WSR production assets were located in Russia’s Tomsk region, Timano-Pechora and Volga-Urals provinces. (The Urals are Matra’s theatre of operations.) One of the consultant companies on the deal was Morgan Stanley who as luck would have it have … read more
A quick update on the Matra Petroleum Independent Research Note. I have heard from the analysts today. I’ve also been invoiced for the Note.
As soon as we get the Research Note we will of course release it immediately to the Members. Remember that it is a Members Only Note paid for from site revenues and must not be passed on to non-members. We should have it in the next few days.

There’s only one name on the lips of Matra Petroleum holders this evening and that’s ”Strategic Investor ” Maxim Barskiy. The new non-executive Director has certainly set tongues a wagging in the city and beyond with his 29.8% newly acquired stake in the company. His pedigree is impeccable.
I’m reminded of a famous quote from Casablanca. “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine” Of all the oil companies in all of the world Maxim Barskiy walked right into ours.
Barskiy’s background isn’t as some would have you believe just ”investment banking”. In 2004 he became managing director of West Siberian Resources. The group merged with Alliance Oil and its market capitalisation grew from less than US$100 million to US$3 billion.
He subsequently moved on to TNK-BP. “Under Maxim Barskiy’s leadership TNK-BP achieved record results in 2010 … read more
